What does OSHA require for farm field workers?

OSHA 29 CFR 1928.110 requires 1 toilet and 1 handwashing facility for every 20 field workers, within a quarter-mile walk of where they work. The rule applies when 11 or more workers do hand labor in the field on any day. Potable drinking water is also required.

That is the legal minimum. We recommend the station sit right beside the toilet so workers wash after use. Read OSHA 1928.110.

Can the porta potty move with the crew?

Yes. Trailer-mounted and towable units let a farm move the toilet from field to field without a call. For standard units, call us and we move the unit on the next route day. Keep the walking distance under a quarter mile so crews stay within OSHA rules.

Never drag or tip a unit that has waste in it. A towable trailer is the safer choice for crews that move every few days.

What about farm stands, corn mazes and pick-your-own?

Farm stands, corn mazes and pick-your-own orchards need public restrooms for customers, not only crews. Plan 1 standard unit per 50 customers per busy afternoon, 1 wheelchair-accessible unit, and a handwashing station near any food. Weekend-heavy farms often add a second service day each week in fall.

Fall weekends in Lancaster County are busy. Book September and October setups by early August.

No street address for the field? Drop a pin in your phone's map app and text it to us. Our drivers use GPS, so the unit lands exactly where your crew works.

Farm porta potty rental FAQs

Can you deliver down a dirt farm lane?

Yes, if the lane is firm enough for a box truck. Tell us about soft spots, bridges and low branches.

Can you mail a paper invoice?

Yes. Many farms prefer phone calls and paper invoices. We mail an invoice on request.

Can I keep a unit all season?

Yes. Seasonal rentals bill per 28-day cycle with weekly service until you call for pickup.

Do you supply drinking water?

No. OSHA also requires potable drinking water for field crews; that is separate from our handwashing water.

How far can a unit sit from the lane?

Our pump hose reaches about 15 feet from the truck. Further spots need a towable unit you can pull to the lane on service day.
